Argentina is home to some of the biggest tech companies in Latin America

WebAssembly

Argentina is home to a vibrant and ever-growing technological ecosystem. Argentina is well-connected and the population has a higher level of income and larger middle-class than its neighbors in Latin America.

Although the country may have a long history of economic instability and financial crises, Argentine entrepreneurs are continually developing new ideas to overcome these challenges and drive the country forward.

Argentina is home to some of the biggest tech companies born in Latin America. In the late 1990s to early 2000s, Buenos Aires established itself as a leading technology hub in Latin America with a wave of successful technology companies including MercadoLibre, OLX, Despegar, and Globant.

These companies are still among Latin America’s leading “unicorns” and employ thousands of people across Latin America.

Many of the founding team members of these companies launched other companies or became investors in the region’s latest generation of entrepreneurs.

When building a web app, performance is usually compromised. JavaScript limitations make heavy calculations slow, and that significantly affects user experience. Therefore, most of the popular games and powerful applications are only available as a native desktop app.

WebAssembly is here to change the game. This new format aims for native-like performance among web apps. With WebAssembly, the code in any programming language can be compiled into bytecode that runs in a browser. WebAssembly code is executed faster than JavaScript. As a result, you can write the performance-critical parts of the app with the most suitable language (C / C++ / C# / Rust / Kotlin, etc.). WebAssembly will then take care of execution in the browser. Native apps can be run in the browser right away. That means access to more users while offering comparable performance on the web without additional development expenses!

More and more major web and desktop browsers including Microsoft Edge, Safari, Chrome, Opera Mobile, etc. make it possible to take UX sky-high with this trendy tool.

Use it for your business Web apps are becoming more powerful with WebAssembly. This technology is definitely worth trying out if you plan to build an online image or video editor, web game, P2P platform, music app, interactive educational and training apps, 3D mapping apps, etc.

Peru: Exciting Software Development Industry

In Peru, you can find a lot of skilled local talent: the top Peruvian universities produce very good engineers, who graduate not only with fluency in English, but also in Western business culture.

There are several potential partners in Peru with the wide range of capabilities of the country’s engineers. Areas in which they specialize in include mobile app development; open source implementations and customizations (Drupal, Joomla, Plone, E-commerce, Moodle); and web-based applications built on PHP, Ruby, Python. They also have experience with the CodeIgniter, Rails, and Django frameworks, and are familiar with scrum and Agile development processes that are increasingly used in US software development.

Outsourcing solves the difficulties in bringing software engineers to the U.S.. Peru is an attractive nearshore option, due to its proximity and similar workday schedule. The flight to Lima takes six to eight hours from most major US cities, not much longer than a cross-country flight from New York to Los Angeles. And since a tourist visa is not required, it's easy to maintain a face-to-face relationship with a development partner there.

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

Artificial intelligence, including machine learning (ML), affects our everyday activities on the internet without us even recognizing it. This is the main point of ML — providing improved experiences natively.

Machine learning is the ability of software to improve performance without direct input from developers. Basically, the software analyzes incoming data. Airbnb, for example, employed machine learning to customize search results for guests to increase the chances of host acceptance of their request. A machine-learning algorithm analyzes the request acceptance decisions of each host. Depending on it, the search results in listings that are more likely to be accepted rank higher. A/B testing has shown a 3.75% increase in conversion. As a result, all Airbnb users are now treated according to this algorithm, which improves customer satisfaction and increases revenue.
